Dear Citizen,
Thank you for visiting my website to learn more about my candidacy for the White Plains Common Council. Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am a 25-year resident of White Plains and have been involved in the White Plains community for a good part of this time. All three of my children have attended the White Plains Public Schools, with the youngest one just graduating from White Plains High School this year.
I have taken on leadership roles across a spectrum of community organizations in White Plains. I have served as President and then City Budget Chair of the White Plains League of Women Voters, which involved spearheading League studies and preparing League statements on the City Budget for the past twenty years. I served on the City Budget & Management Committee and the Annual Budget Committee for the White Plains School District. I have taken on key roles with the White Plains PTA Council, chairing the PTA’s Legislation and School Budget Committees for many years, and in my church, serving on the Church Council and heading up youth and Sunday School activities.
In addition to my community involvements, my professional work has focused on the field of public finance. I am a Managing Director at National Public Finance Guarantee, a subsidiary of MBIA, where I have worked in underwriting new transactions as well as monitoring and working out problems in the company’s insured bond portfolio for the past seventeen years. Previously, I worked at Moody’s Investors Service, rating government and not-for-profit bonds in the Northeast region, and for the New York State Legislature’s Commission on State-Local Relations. This background has provided me with exposure to governmental management and financial practices across the country and enhanced my ability to identify financial warning signs and strategies for addressing governmental financial challenges. My undergraduate studies in political science and economics, as well as my Master’s degree in Public Policy with an emphasis on economic development, have helped to prepare me for elected public office, a challenge, with your help, I would now like to undertake.
My professional skills, educational background and community activities relate directly to the issues currently facing the City of White Plains. As a member of the Common Council, I would emphasize the maintenance of stable and strong City finances, while exploring more cost effective means to provide quality services to all members of our diverse community. I would also seek ways to ensure the City connects to its schools, houses of worship and community groups and maintains open access to decision-making.
I now want to focus my efforts on giving back to my community as a member of the White Plains Common Council and I ask you for your support. The "How You Can Help" section of this website includes ways you can get involved in my campaign. Also, let me know what issues are important to you by visiting the “Contact” tab of this website. I very much look forward to hearing from you and meeting you along the “campaign trail”.
Respectfully yours,
