Our recommendations for White Plains
Despite the slowdown in the economy and in development, things are looking up in White Plains, where an exceptionally strong group of candidates are vying for city offices. Even if mayoral hopeful Glen Hockley had not been knocked off the ballot for failing to complete election paperwork, he could hardly have competed with Adam Bradley, the detail-oriented, results-driven state legislator whom White Plains residents will soon elect as their mayor.
White Plains council candidates pitch ways to save money
WHITE PLAINS - The candidates for Common Council bring a range of backgrounds to the table, from finance to private retail to city government. The question will be which of those backgrounds voters want at the helm during an especially tough budget year.
Three Democrats and two Republicans are running for three open council seats. Democrat Tom Roach is the only incumbent on the ballot, as Councilman Glen Hockley is leaving the council to run for mayor and Councilwoman Rita Malmud will retire after 20 years.

WHITE PLAINS - City Democrats last night gave state Assemblyman Adam Bradley their unanimous nomination for mayor and launched a campaign they hope will give the party all seven seats on the council for the first time in the history of this once solidly Republican city.
Bradley was in Albany and did not attend the session. Reached afterward, he said the Democratic slate - which also will include Common Council candidates Tom Roach, a two-term incumbent, and newcomers David Buchwald and Beth Smayda - has "high-caliber people" to guide the city "through some very difficult times."
